We enjoyed our stay at the very atmospheric Dale Head Hall, especially the front row views of Thirlmere reservoir (two smaller lakes were dammed to create this one, man-made lake), the full English breakfast served in the lakefront dining room, and the warm hospitality of staff who told us the building was first erected in the 1500s. The room we stayed in could use some refreshing but we were comfortable and didn’t have any issues. After breakfast we enjoyed a stroll around the grounds which boasts many hydrangeas, rhododendrons, and other gorgeous plant life.

Beautiful room with plenty of space for a family. Room has original features with modern bathroom. Service was excellent. Very attentitive. Staff could not do enough and provided local info with passion and humour. Location is excellent. Away from the hustle and bustle the property sits alone with stunning views over Thirlmere. Only a short drive into Grasmere or Keswick. Breakfast was very good too.

We hope that one day in the future we get to visit again. For certain I already miss this place. A beautiful house in an outstanding setting. This hotel is located away from the main road so it’s tranquil and peaceful. A romantic getaway. But the floors and walls may creek a bit to loudly like the Romantic couple above us wink wink The breakfast was absolutely spot on I couldn’t fault it. The family that run the hotel are very friendly and chatty. The beds are comfortable Tea, coffee and hot chocolate provided. Shower gel and a hair dryer too. If I could change one thing it would be the panelling in the bathroom looks a little tired. The toilet is a septic tank so only tissue can be put down there.

Very welcoming family run hotel with spectacular views. We stayed for 1 night when visiting the area with our children who loved the gardens and the walk along the side of the reservoir. The room was perfect and we had a lovely meal. Nice selection of bottled local ales.

This house has a stunning view to the lake! Service and location are great! Not giving 5 stars as they need to give some love to the rooms, cleanliness wise and maintenance wise can improve!

Just returned from a fabulous long weekend at this lovely place. Dale and the family go out of their way to make you feel welcome and nothing is too much trouble. The house and grounds are beautiful and well maintained without being overdone, creating a relaxed and calm environment for guests. All necessary facilities provided in the rooms, with Freeview TV and WiFi if you want to make use of them. The views are spectacular and the garden and grounds full of wildlife. Lovely walks through the garden and woods to the Lakeshore. No noise or light pollution. This is a haven for anyone who truly wants to get away from it all, but just a short distance from both Grasmere and Keswick for anything you might need. An absolute gem, loved every second and we will definitely be back soon.

Stayed at the Dale Head Hall hotel at the beginning of March 2025. Loved this small hotel, we had a stunning room overlooking the lake with a 4 poster bed! Great walks along the banks of Thirlmere straight from the hotel with no driving, ideal for our 4 dogs. It was lovely sitting outside admiring the view with nature all around. It’s about a 7 minute drive to Keswick where we had a lovely Indian meal of an evening. The owner of the hotel was a nice guy, really friendly. Rooms spotlessly clean and very spacious and the breakfast was spot on. Loved the character of this hotel dating back to the 1500’s. Lots of Wainwright very close by, so ideal for a walking holiday, or for people wanting peace and tranquillity in a beautiful spot! We will definitely stay again really soon!
